Julia Wright, Stefan Doeblin, Patrick MacManaway • DE, EN
Co-creating with the Intelligence of All Beings in Agriculture
Agriculture differs fundamentally from most other sectors: it carries responsibility for regenerating and caring for living systems, including soil fertility, plant vitality, animals, forests, biodiversity, and the production of healthy food. This workshop explores what becomes possible when we recognise that all life holds intelligence and consciously develop relationships of communication, collaboration, and co-creation with the beings of nature. Drawing on Rudolf Steiner’s descriptions of elemental and formative forces, as well as Indigenous traditions and attentive forms of nature communication, participants will explore practices for cultivating conscious relationships with plants, landscapes, and living systems. Across three sessions, participants will apply these approaches to agricultural practice, plant breeding, and the microbiome. Experiential exercises, dialogue, and collaborative enquiry will invite farmers, breeders, gardeners, seed savers, and others to share their experiences, develop practical capacities, and explore concrete next steps towards a more conscious, respectful, and co-creative relationship with nature and agriculture.
02 • Vom Mikrobiom zum Genius loci
PREPARE ONLINEThomas van Elsen, Wilfried Buettner • DE, EN
From the Microbiome to the Genius Loci
Microbiome research turns our relationship with the smallest entities of life on its head: health arises not through control, but through relationship and cooperation. Our workshop asks whether a similar paradigm shift is also needed at the “macroscopic” level – in the relationship between people and landscape. The genius loci becomes a way of asking questions: How can places be developed in relation to their potential – perceiving and developing what is inherent in them through an attitude of giving rather than one-sided taking? Drawing on the experience of the organisers and participants, we want to develop and begin to practise methodological steps towards ecological inclusion. One of the three sessions will take place outdoors on the Goetheanum grounds, with a guided perception exercise on site. We want to take the paradigm shift in microbiome research as an opportunity to ask whether a similar shift is needed in our relationship with nature at the level of place and landscape development. The question of the genius loci serves as a starting point for an expanded perspective and methodological steps towards ecological inclusion. We will explore and reflect on a “giving” attitude towards landscape and place, and discuss how these approaches might be transferred to the participants’ own fields of practice – farm landscapes, gardens and projects. The three sessions will begin with an introduction and the question: How can places be developed in the sense of ecological inclusion? The second session will take place outdoors on the Goetheanum grounds and will include a perception exercise to approach the genius loci, followed by practical reflection on methodological steps. The third session will focus on deepening the work and looking ahead, exploring the participants’ questions and areas for development, methodological steps and possibilities for putting the work into practice.
03 • Der Michaelbrief im Kontext der Leitsätze
BRIEF • LETTERAlbrecht Römer, Johannes Wirz • DE, EN
The Michael Letter in the Context of the Leading Thoughts
“…One must be able to receive into oneself the purely natural-scientific way of thinking. But one ought also to learn to speak about nature – that is, learn to sense – in a way that is in accord with Christ.” As a complement to the respective morning contributions on the Michael Letter, we would like to explore the ideas presented in the letter in small English- or German-speaking discussion groups, as well as bilingually in the larger group. The exploration may also extend to the neighbouring Letters and their respective Leading Thoughts (106–111 and 115–120).
04 • Bildekräfteforschung und Christus-Impuls
Veit Zschiesche, Annette Saar • DE, EN
Formative Forces Research and Christ-Impulse
“We must learn to understand that in the future we are not to look on the physical plane for the most important events but outside it, just as we shall have to look for Christ on His return as etheric form in the spiritual world.” (GA 118)
Rudolf Steiner spoke in various lectures of a great, or even the greatest, mystery of the century: the return of Christ in the etheric realm. How can the etheric forces, the forces of life, become perceptible through formative forces research, thereby opening the way to a deeper understanding of the return of Christ? Drawing on Steiner’s indications, this working group will explore this question through contributions, conversation and practical exercises.
05 • Die Rosaceae zwischen Mikrobiom und den Ätherkräften der Erde
Ed Berger, Michael Staub, Astrid Sprenger • DE, EN
From Soil to Heart: The Rosaceae Between the Microbiome and the Etheric Forces of the Earth
We are approaching the 2027 conference theme via the rose family. This family includes rose hips, apple, strawberry, cherry, and almond, as well as odermennig, bloodroot, lady’s mantle, hawthorn, and many more—plants that have provided food, healing, fragrance, and cultural inspiration for millennia. Rosaceae are also intensively studied in soil and rhizosphere research. Examples such as apple replant disease or nitrogen-fixing wild rose species demonstrate the close connection between soil, plants, and humans. The workshop explores the rose as a living image of these relationships: its rhythmic form, the geometry of the five-petaled flower, the polarity between wood and blossom, and its aromatic and warming powers. Through scientific microbiome research, Goethean perception, and a meditative-artistic approach, we will explore the unique character of the Rosaceae family as well as concrete examples of their application in contemporary anthroposophic medicine.
06 • Gemeinsam mit der Intelligenz des Lebens züchten
Jean-Michel Florin, Theo Boon, Alex Edleson, Michael Fleck • DE, EN
Breeding Together with the Intelligence of Life
Building on the conference’s guiding theme, “Working with the Intelligence of Life,” this workshop will explore how seed work and plant breeding for biodynamic agriculture can be further developed in the future; ideally emancipated from the influence of Ahriman, without, for example, intervening in the sphere of life of seeds and plants through genetic engineering. On the first day, we will develop our theme in greater depth and explore it in relation to the Michael Letter. The second day will provide an opportunity to exchange experiences about what each of us is doing in our daily practice in this field and what obstacles we encounter. On the third day, we will create space to develop perspectives on how to further advance biodynamic breeding of reproducible, open-pollinated varieties and how we can shape this work together. The ideas and initiatives developed during the workshop will be brought together at the end, with the aim of continuing to develop them after the conference.
Farms as Places of Humanity in the Age of AI
While society is only beginning to grasp how artificial intelligence is transforming activities and ways of life, agriculture has known the experience of becoming replaceable for decades. Structural change, the decline of farms, and the replacement of farmers’ knowledge with standardised procedures have long set this transformation in motion. If AI takes over large parts of technical and organisational work in the future, the question arises: Where will there still be places where people engage with the earth, plants, animals and other people through their bodies, hands and senses? Rudolf Steiner’s indication is that it is not the “what” that matters – technology will come – but the “how”, the way in which we encounter it. Biodynamic agriculture understands the farm not merely as a place of production, but as a field of practice for developing our relationship with the living world. Farms can thus become refuges for what is human and schools for another way of being human. This requires community-based farms that also consciously shape their internal relationships: How do we make decisions? How do we deal with responsibility, conflict and power? Over the three mornings, we will explore these questions. On the third day, we will focus in particular on the farm as a refuge and school for being human. The workshop will be complemented by an exchange of experiences around farm stewardship and concrete approaches for our own practice.
08 • Kulturland-Biotope und die Lebendigkeit des Hoforganismus
PREPARE ONLINELuise Blank, Markus Wespel, Benno Otter, Gerti Staffend • DE, EN
Cultivated-Land Habitats and the Vitality of the Farm Organism
Until industrialisation, the greatest biodiversity in Central Europe developed within the cultural landscape shaped by human beings. Today, in the face of continuing biodiversity loss, the question arises of how we can once again perceive, cultivate and make use of the diverse habitats within the farm landscape as parts of a living whole. How can we shift our focus from purely economic considerations of yield towards an awareness of the effective relationships within nature, as Rudolf Steiner describes them in the Agriculture Course? Microbiome research shows how closely plant diversity and soil life are connected, and how this diversity can contribute to health and resilience. What habitats does the farm individuality need in order to form a living organism? Using the Goetheanum Park as an example, we will explore how we can perceive the existing cultivated-land habitats, recognise their potential and develop a fruitful cooperation with the living world.
Martin Hollerbach, Paul Pieterse • DE, EN
The Intelligent Effects of Horn Silica and Horn Manure on the Farm Individuality
A research group investigated the question “What is soil fertility at the level of life?” on three biodynamic farms over a period of three years. Soil samples were taken from different depths and elevations at different times of the year and analysed using methods of life forces research. Particular attention was given to the effects of horn silica and horn manure. In this workshop, the results will be presented and explored through practical exercises, and a poster summarising some surprising findings will be discussed together.
10 • Mit Bildekräften arbeiten – Praktische Anwendung potenzierter Präparate
Christina Henatsch, Angela Hofmann, Benjamin Epler, Juan Martín Richter • DE, EN, ES
Working with Formative Forces: Practical Application of Potentised Preparations
The effects of the preparations are widely underestimated, at least in Europe. Experiencing their effects can foster greater enthusiasm for and understanding of their application. Potentizing the preparations greatly simplifies their use and allows for a more specific and more intensive effect. Using the method of formative forces research, we will explore and experience the effects of different preparations (including the clay preparation) and different potency levels. The workshop will also include practical potentization and an exchange of experiences with potentized preparations.
PREPARE ONLINECarin Fortin, Delmar McComb • DE, EN
Strengthening Farm Individuality: Towards a Gesamtkunstwerk
In the face of the increasing challenges of our world, a paradigm shift in our work with the land is needed. This workshop aims to develop capacities that can support such a shift. We will explore how to perceive, design and establish a farm individuality in which the rhythmic relationships between the visible world and the unseen etheric formative forces and beings are harmonised and strengthened. The aim is to develop a farm individuality that can be experienced as a Gesamtkunstwerk, or Total Work of Art. The workshop will explore the importance of the four ethers, the four elements, the four kingdoms of nature and the four directions in shaping a farm organism; bringing awareness to and working with the etheric streams of the planetary spheres and their influence on soil, plants, animals, humans and the ecosystem; incorporating concepts such as syntrophism and holonism to practically strengthen etheric forces and biological processes above and within the microbiome below; and specific suggestions for plants that can be integrated into the farm organism to enhance etheric forces and the microbiome. Blossom’s Farm is a diversified biodynamic farm organism committed to the regeneration and healing of the land, community and self, integrating agriculture, education and art. It is situated in Central California, a region where droughts, wildfires and El Niño events are recurring natural challenges.
12 • Rhythmus trägt Leben – Kosmische und irdische Intelligenz
Armin Bauer • DE
Rudolf Hauschka fragte einmal Rudolf Steiner: „Können Sie mir erklären, was Rhythmus ist?
Bettina Schleyerbach, Marcel Waldhausen • DE
15 • From Michael's Impulse to Co-Creation with the Intelligence of Life
PREPARE ONLINEAnthoniselvi Savarimuthu, Thangapandian Dhanikodi, Gerd Bridts, • EN, NL
This workshop explores the “Intelligence of Life” as a question of consciousness: How can human beings learn not only to understand life, but to perceive, respect and consciously co-create with the living Earth?
Three perspectives will enter into dialogue: Michael’s impulse towards a free, responsible and spiritually perceptive relationship with nature; Biodynamic Agriculture as a practical approach to experiencing and working with the farm as a living organism; and the ancient Tamil wisdom of Thinai, which connects landscape, climate, livelihood, food, animals, human activity and culture. Drawing on India’s traditional agricultural wisdom, Thinai offers a perspective in which land is understood not simply as geographical space, but as a living context that shapes human life and culture. Rather than seeking to merge these traditions, the workshop will allow them to question, illuminate and deepen one another. Through conversation and exploration, participants will ask what it means to work consciously with the Intelligence of Life, how scientific knowledge and spiritual perception might meet, and how agriculture can become a practice of cultivating relationships between soil, plants, animals, human beings, landscape and cosmos. The workshop invites us to consider the farmer not merely as a producer of commodities, but as a cultivator of living relationships—and agriculture as a meeting place for science, spirituality and cultural wisdom in service of a living Earth.
16 • The Path of Light – The Macrocosm in Our Guts and Our Thoughts
Emanuele Tellini, Nadia El-Hage • EN, IT
In the age of the Consciousness Soul and living thought, our well-being originates in the light of our cells. The Ether of Light is capable of radiating and propagating from cell to cell through all three of our systems: the neurosensory, rhythmic, and metabolic systems. It is in the depths of our inner being that we can encounter and support the manifestation of the intelligence of life in matter—an inexhaustible force that, through the Light of humanity, can begin anew and, through perception, manifest itself clearly within us. Understanding this means understanding the essence of biodynamic agricultural practices, which are capable of going beyond the concept of the organic quality of vital food and beyond the concept of the energetic content of vital food. Growing according to the biodynamic agricultural method means generating vital food containing the Ether of Light, which will become increasingly indispensable to humanity in the future.
17 • Arboreal Intelligence in the Amazon Cloud Forest
PREPARE ONLINECraig Leon • EN, ES
Are mycorrhizal networks, when gravitational curves are created, able to provide enough nourishment to young native tree species to eliminate the need for potting soil from the nursery? If so, this could dramatically reduce the manual labour involved in reforesting land deforested by cattle ranching, allowing trees to be transported with bare roots rather than with soil up steep slopes. Krona RSF displays from six distinct areas in the region, ranging from deep primary forest to recently deforested land, show unusual patterns that could provide further evidence of forest intelligence and how mycelium may act like soldiers in the recovery of forests. The workshop will combine audiovisual depictions of the different areas with views of the Kronas and their composition, as well as a look at the more than 3,000 mycelia identified so far on site. It will include drawing on the Kronas and looking for connections and patterns between those found in deep primary forest, primary forest close to deforested land, recently deforested land, land recovering naturally without intervention, and areas where enriched rewilding is taking place. Together, we will explore this phenomenon and look for insights.
18 • Working with the Intelligence of Life – Conscious Eating and Feeding
Stéphane Cozon, Marion Haas • EN, FR
Life forces and our connection to the etheric manifest in human beings through the temperaments. These temperaments are reflected in the way we relate to the world and in the way we nourish ourselves. What kind of eaters are we? What kind of eaters are our family members and our guests? Our gut is our second brain, and our intestinal microbiome acts, in a sense, as its neuronal body. How can we use the approach of the temperaments to consciously influence this unconscious organ and, in doing so, support our physical and mental health and live in harmony with others and the world? And what about our farm animals? Do we feed them according to their temperaments and their relationship to the elements? Do we guide them in ways that help them cultivate a healthy microbiome? These are the questions we propose to explore more deeply in our workshop through sensory experiences, periods of meditation and the sharing of experiences.

20 • Biodynamics meets Agroforestry
PREPARE ONLINEEsteban Acosta Pereira, Ambra Pirker Grosmaire, Fatma Mohamed Abosamra, Gaudenz Hurter • EN, ES
In biodynamics, we work towards developing self-sufficient systems. Agroforestry, as an integrative tool for farm design, can support this by bringing the forces of nature and the wider ecosystem into our work. It creates intensive microbial activity and diversity, strengthening connections across multiple layers of interaction, from the microbiome to the macrobiome. We believe the future of biodynamics lies in integrating knowledge and experience from agroecology, permaculture and regenerative farming, using agroforestry to develop self-sustaining systems. During the workshop, we will draw on more than 20 years of experience implementing agroforestry systems in biodynamic projects across several tropical countries, exploring their potential to become self-sustaining. We will consider how the intelligence of life manifests through soil biodiversity, supporting fertility, water retention, microclimate regulation and the unique characteristics of each ecosystem.
21 • Exploring 'Life Intelligence' through Agricultural Chinese Characters
PREPARE ONLINESundeep Kamath, Shen Li • EN, CN
Nature and agriculture are two significant sources of Chinese characters, which evolved gradually from ancient pictographs. Each character comprises three elements: form, sound, and meaning. The form represents the physical body, the sound corresponds to the ether, and the meaning itself embodies a form of life intelligence. Every Chinese character is a living, intelligent entity formed through the union of form and ether.
By selecting key characters related to agriculture and writing them together, we can gain insight into the living intelligence inherent in these characters and experience their real-time manifestation.
Chinese calligraphy is the art of writing characters; through the movement of the brush, we can directly experience transforming our intentions and the ether into flowing lines. This process allows us to generate living intelligence in the moment and achieve a perfect connection between our own intelligence and the cosmic intelligence embodied within the characters.
22 • The Artistic and Intelligent Garden Designed by the Earth
PREPARE ONLINEEtha Widiyanto, Sayu Komang, Made Sukayana • EN
From the very dawn of creation, the Earth has been present alongside other celestial beings. Her existence predates all other forms of life, and she has endured countless disasters, calamities, plagues, and epidemics. Yet she continues to thrive. This resilience speaks to her intelligence and resourcefulness: she has found ways to survive for an astonishing 4.54 billion years—and possibly billions more. Her remarkable ability to adapt and allow time for healing demonstrates profound wisdom and patience. Even in the face of prolonged droughts, destructive floods, tornadoes, and tsunamis, she persists, restoring her balance and rhythm.
The Earth also embodies nurturing support for all living beings. She communicates in ways that transcend words, working harmoniously with cosmic entities and the beings residing within her. She even reaches out to humans—creatures who predominantly dwell within their minds—awakening awareness and encouraging collaboration with her energies. Given this deep connection, whenever we create a new garden, restore an old farm, or rehabilitate barren land, the essential first step is to consult Earth herself—the Spirit of Place, Genius Loci.
In Bali, we honour this relationship through concepts such as Tri Angga (the three-part body), Kanda Pat (the four spirit guardians), and Desa-Kala-Patra (the harmony of place, time, and circumstance). In this workshop, participants will explore their own garden or farm designs or examine alternative case studies. Through shared learning and discussion, we aim to deepen our connection by listening to the land’s messages, reading its signs, and interpreting the wisdom embedded in its natural art. Ultimately, our goal is to cultivate a respectful, collaborative relationship with Earth, recognising her as a wise partner in all our endeavours.
23 • Pflanzenzüchtung in Partnerschaft mit dem Mikrobiom
Walter Goldstein, Peter Kunz • DE, EN
Breeding Plants in Partnership with the Microbiome
In this workshop, we explore biodynamic breeding with endophytes – microorganisms that live within plants and may contribute to their health, resilience and vitality. We will also explore the question of whether biodynamic varieties can only be truly successful if their interaction with the farm's microbiome produces stable results over many years. We will examine field observations and microscopic research with maize, wheat, barley, oats and weeds, and learn how to detect endophytes and explore their diversity across plant species and varieties. We will also look at approaches to transferring microbiomes between plant varieties, including experiments with microbiomes from biodynamic preparations and the transfer of microbiomes from weeds to maize. Participants will have the opportunity to explore how these approaches could be integrated into their own breeding work. The workshop is aimed at farmers, amateur selectionists and professional breeders who are interested in breeding for endophytes across diverse plant species and in getting started with this approach.
24 • Ayurveda and the Intelligence of Life – Connecting Soil, Body and Cosmos
Anand Padmanabhan, Aparna Padmanabhan • EN
Ayurveda begins with the principle yathā piṇḍe tathā brahmāṇḍe — as in the microcosm, so in the macrocosm — and has developed a comprehensive method for perceiving and engaging with the living forces that this conference explores. At its foundation are Guna, the inherent qualities found alike in soil, climate and the human body, including the gut–brain axis and the gut and skin microbiomes, and Pramāṇa, the means by which these qualities can be known: direct perception, inference and reliable testimony. Across two days, we will move from reading ourselves to reading the world. Day one begins with a short guided breathwork practice, drawn from Yoga, Ayurveda’s sister science, before any concepts are introduced. We then explore the individual mind–body constitution (Prakṛti), the biological clock through daily and seasonal rhythms (Dinacaryā, Ṛtucaryā), and pulse diagnosis as a practice of trained perception (Nāḍī Parīkṣā), grounded in clinical cases of dosha imbalance. On day two, the focus turns outward. Through hands-on tasting and a herb demonstration, we explore how herbs and spices are used to heal and restore balance in the body. We then turn to Vṛkṣāyurveda, in which the same principles are applied to soil and plants in the classical texts. The workshop closes with the dialogical approach shared by vaidya and farmer alike: read what is specifically in front of you rather than imposing a standard protocol. The workshop is co-facilitated by Anand Padmanabhan — biodynamic gardener, certified yoga teacher and CEO of Purnayoo Ayurvedic Hospital — and Dr Aparna Padmanabhan, senior physician and experienced Ayurvedic doctor at Purnayoo. Together, they bring clinical practice, embodied practice and land-based practice into a shared way of perceiving life.
25 • Can Modern Science and Spiritual Science Hold Hands in Perceiving Life?
Teo Nasar • EN
How can we approach the intelligence of life without separating the measurable from the perceptible, or the material from the spiritual? This practical workshop brings modern scientific observation, biodynamic practice, Goethean phenomenology and meditative perception together around the living relationship between boron, calcium and sugar processes in plants. Participants will observe plants phenomenologically and through meditation, measure Brix levels, and work practically with Preparations 500 and 501, untreated plants and, where appropriate, a carefully designed boron treatment. By returning to the plants and repeating observations and measurements, we will explore what emerges when quantitative measurement and qualitative perception meet. The investigation opens broader questions around plant development, nutrition and the cultivation of vitality and formative forces. The workshop follows a simple rhythm: observe, perceive, measure, act, observe again and reflect.

Developing Intuition to Work with Nature Spirits on the Land
Many people have heard of the Findhorn Community in Scotland and its work with nature spirits, or of older traditions in Ireland and Iceland where people have maintained connections with fairies, gnomes and tree spirits. In this workshop, we will experience a deep meditation and journeying technique to develop your intuition and explore communication with the spirits of the elements, the land and plants. Together, we will explore how such connections might benefit us, our communities, our land and the natural world around us – and perhaps the nature spirits in return. The central question is: What do we have to give? The workshop will partly take place outdoors. Ina Gühmann lives in a Camphill Community in Northern Ireland and has many stories to share about encounters with nature spirits and how to listen to and communicate with them.
31 • Lebensmittel mit der Intelligenz des Körpers betrachten
Uwe Geier, Stephanie Ott • DE, EN
Looking at Food Through the Lens of the Body’s Intelligence
Empathic Food Testing is a method for describing the effects of food on physical and emotional well-being. As such, it has the potential to capture the added value of biodynamic production, as well as the character and vitality of biodynamic foods. In this workshop, we will learn about the method and experience food on a deeper level. When we look at the forces of life and life processes, Empathic Food Testing can be a suitable method for perceiving and exploring them. With this knowledge and the ability to integrate it into their lives, people become sovereign in matters of nutrition and can respond flexibly to changing external developments and conditions. A key focus will be on questions regarding how to share this expertise with the global biodynamic community.
32 • Fermentation – Vom Umgang mit lebendigen Lacto-Bazillus-Kulturen

36 • Eurythmie mit Bienen im Goetheanum Gartenpark
Mailin Wölki, Sabrina Menestrina • DE, EN, IT
Eurythmy with Bees
Eurythmy can calm, harmonise and stimulate bees and their surroundings. Together, we will move through the developmental process of the worker bees and explore how we can support bees etherically in accordance with their nature, whether we can enhance their wellbeing within their sphere of life, and how we can support them eurythmically in dealing with illness. We will also practise eurythmy directly with the bees at the Goetheanum and observe them. No prior knowledge is required.

39 • Creating Strong Social Networks Around Our Farms
Jean-Michel Florin, Lucie Moy • EN, FR
We are increasingly discovering just how closely plants – and trees in particular, which appear to grow separately above ground, each expressing their own identity – are connected to the soil through their microbiota and to one another through mycorrhizae. It is these multiple connections, fostered by diversity, that contribute to their health and resilience in the face of extreme events. When a tree loses these connections, it quickly becomes vulnerable and may wither away. Are we not witnessing a similar fragmentation in the social world? Family and village ties that once provided a strong sense of belonging have been lost. Many people suffer from loneliness, including farmers who may be too shy or exhausted by their work to speak about their existential worries. In this workshop, we will follow a participatory process combining discussion, artistic exercises and shared contributions. Just as plants depend on their connections, we will explore how we can create and strengthen our own connections at different levels, building a solid foundation from which we can face the challenges of our time.
40 • Think Like a Forest – Learning Agroforestry from a Māori Perspective
PREPARE ONLINESamuel Gibson • EN, Māori
This workshop explores the roles of specific plant groups in building resilience and abundance in forest communities, as well as their connections to people through food and herbal medicine. In an era of rapid climate change and increasing human pressure on forests, we need to look beyond agricultural systems and learn from healthy forest ecosystems. Forests regulate climate, strengthen landscape resilience and create some of the most productive soils on Earth. Interestingly, forest species often play related roles in our own bodies. Drawing on an Indigenous Māori perspective from Aotearoa/New Zealand, we will explore the roles of ferns as soil builders, protectors and regulators, and the roles of vines in supporting older trees, protecting the forest and responding to gaps in the canopy. We will also consider the roles of pioneering trees, wind, birds and animals in regenerating forests, and the relationships between plant species and their food and medicinal properties. The workshop is particularly relevant for those interested in permaculture, resilient agriculture, soil productivity and landscape resilience. It draws on the workshop leaders’ lifelong experience in the bush and extensive research into forest ecology.
42 • What Can a Hen Teach Us About Our Relationship with Life?
PREPARE ONLINENeil Lin, Gloria Sun • EN, CN
We encounter eggs almost every day. But do we really see the hen that lays the egg? In this workshop, we will observe the hen and the egg as an entry point into food and farming education. Together, we will explore how animals express their needs and how an egg connects soil, plants, animals, farmers and humans. Over these two days, we will follow a journey from perception to relationship. What is a hen telling us through her behaviour? Can we design a farm around the life of the animal, rather than asking the animal to fit into our system? And is an egg simply a product, or an expression of a living organism? The workshop does not aim to provide one “correct” method of raising hens. Instead, through the hen and the egg, we will practise perceiving life, understanding relationships, noticing change and responding to living processes.
43 • The Memory of the Sieve – Dyeing with Anatolian Plants
Loya Kader Öztürkmen • EN, TR
Anatolia is home to an exceptional diversity of plant life, with more than 12,000 native species in Türkiye, including 3,649 endemic species. As a crossroads between major floristic regions and the historical centre of the Fertile Crescent, the region has played an important role in the development of cultivated plants such as wheat, rye and barley. For centuries, the sieve has been an essential tool for preparing wheat, Türkiye’s staple food. Traditionally used during communal threshing celebrations, it also carries cultural and spiritual significance. In this artistic dyeing workshop, the sieve becomes a symbol of life and collective memory. We will work with endemic Anatolian plants, arranging them in layered compositions inside sieves coloured using traditional Turkish natural root dyes. We will then stitch the plants in place with jute straw rope. Through this artistic process, we will explore the enduring relationship between plants, agriculture, the land and human cultural memory.

Endemik Anadolu bitkileriyle çalışacak, bitkileri geleneksel Türk doğal kök boyalarıyla renklendirilmiş eleklerin içinde katmanlı kompozisyonlar hâlinde düzenleyeceğiz. Ardından bitkileri jüt liflerinden yapılmış iplerle eleklerin üzerine dikeceğiz. Bu sanatsal süreç aracılığıyla bitkiler, tarım, toprak ve insanın kültürel hafızası arasındaki kalıcı ilişkiyi keşfedeceğiz.
44 • How the Zodiac Shapes Plants – Preparations as Bridges between Cosmic Forces
Timo Kalliokoski • EN, FI
The seed of the plant is a kind of chaos, open to being influenced and organised by the zodiacal forces. The entire cycle of the year affects the plant, while its pure archetypal form, the Urpflanze, is formed at the spiritual height of the winter solstice. The information contained in the seed is strengthened and anchored in the soil through the biodynamic preparations. The preparations build bridges between the zodiacal formative forces, supporting plants in developing in the most living and vibrant way. In this workshop, we will explore the cycle of the year, the formative principles of the zodiac, and the preparations as bridges between these forces. Through meditative drawing, we will seek to make these forces and their relationships visible.

45 • Discovering the Intelligence of Life in Our Own Biography
Liia Ivanova, Thomas Kraus • EN, RU
Wisdom can be discovered everywhere in the relationships and interconnectedness of nature. An extraordinarily intelligent interplay between the different realms of nature reveals itself. We can perceive this intelligence not only in the outer world but also within ourselves. Our instruments for doing so are perception and thinking.
In this workshop, we will turn our attention to our inner processes. By placing our own lives at the centre of our observation, the question of the intelligence of life becomes concrete and personal. It reveals itself in our biography and in the events and encounters that unfold throughout our lives. How wise and almost super-intelligent has our life been arranged so far? Every biography bears witness to an intelligence that borders on a miracle. When we become aware of this wonderful intelligence, we can begin to work with it – both outwardly and inwardly.
46 • Francis of Assisi and the Canticle of the Creatures
Emanuele Tellini, Nadia El-Hage, Marilena Massera • EN, FR, IT
We live in a materialistic world in which everything increasingly becomes an object of exchange, self-interest and the marketplace – a world of falsification and masking, where things are losing their immediate, unique and human purpose. We have lost simplicity. To be a biodynamic farmer in modern society requires a rupture, a rebirth: a break that can awaken humanity’s primordial aspiration to become who we truly are. Today, the call of Mother Earth is more than a call; it is an awakening. By retracing the figure of Francis of Assisi, we will seek a new path: the Johannine way, a path of dialogue with the Wisdom, Beauty and Strength of Christ, allowing ourselves to be permeated by them down to the deepest and most subtle dimensions of our physical being. In the symphony of his Canticle of the Creatures, Francis reveals the wonder of creation, allowing us to encounter each creature in its original and pure beauty. Eight hundred years later, Rudolf Steiner’s Koberwitz lectures present, in a modern form, the fruit of the seed Francis sowed, pointing towards a new relationship between humanity and Mother Earth: the path of the living organism. Along this path, the biodynamic farmer becomes a new conductor of the Canticle of the Creatures. By allowing the intelligence of life to work through them, farmers can help bring forth new communities in which all beings – from the microbe to the ecosystem – are recognised as brothers and sisters.
47 • Enhancing Plant Resilience to Climate Change with Biostimulants
Naglaa Ahmed, Adel Khaled • EN
Climate change is challenging plants with increasingly frequent and complex stresses, including heat, drought, salinity, irregular rainfall and combinations of these factors. Yet plants are not passive organisms waiting to be protected. They continuously sense their environment, communicate internally and with microorganisms, adjust their metabolism, and activate remarkable mechanisms of adaptation and recovery. This workshop invites participants to explore how we can work with these natural capacities rather than simply trying to overcome environmental stress through external inputs. We will investigate the role of plant biostimulants—including beneficial microorganisms, seaweed extracts, humic substances, protein hydrolysates and other bioactive materials—in activating and supporting the plant’s own resilience mechanisms, with particular attention to the relationships between plants, their roots, the rhizosphere and the microbiome. Rather than focusing solely on products and application rates, we will ask a deeper question: How can we understand and support the intelligence already present within the plant–soil–microbiome system? Through short scientific inputs, observation, group exercises, discussion and a practical case study, participants will explore how plants respond to different stresses and where biostimulants may help strengthen their natural resilience. The workshop will conclude with participants developing their own “resilience strategy” for a crop facing a real climate challenge, connecting scientific knowledge with ecological thinking and practical agricultural decision-making.
48 • Assessing Life Force and Quality through Image-Forming Methods
Arunkumar Jayaraman • EN
With over 20 years of experience in biodynamic and organic agriculture, this workshop draws on extensive work with image-forming techniques to assess the vitality and quality of biodynamic preparations, manures, composts, soils and agricultural produce. We will learn methods such as crystallisation, circular paper chromatography and capillary dynamolysis, and explore how these techniques can reveal aspects of biological activity, life force, maturity, humus quality and overall vitality beyond conventional chemical analysis. On the first day, we will examine and interpret image patterns from biodynamic preparations, organic manures, composts, soils and crops. On the second day, practical tools based on circular paper chromatography will be used to explore soil nutrients and humus quality. The workshop combines practical experience with scientific approaches and is intended for farmers, researchers, soil scientists, students, extension professionals, certification agencies and others interested in qualitative approaches to assessing agricultural quality and soil health.
49 • Leaf Geometry and the Seven Trees of the First Goetheanum
Sophia Montefiore, Raphael Kleimann • EN
In this workshop, Sophia Montefiore will lead artistic explorations based on her research in projective geometry, focusing on the leaf forms of the seven trees that Rudolf Steiner chose for the planetary columns of the First Goetheanum. We will engage with these forms as expressions of a balance of forces, exploring their profound geometric relationships. Raphael Kleimann will explore how the archetypal planetary qualities of these seven trees can manifest as healing forces. One focus will be on the flower essences of mistletoe and their etheric presence, both for the individual and for the wider community of humans, animals and plants, extending all the way to the sensitive biome of the root tips.
50 • Veiled Treasures of Rudolf Steiner's Soul Calendar
Brian Keats • EN
In this workshop, we will discuss verses from the Calendar of the Soul in the context of a journey between death and rebirth woven into the cycle of the year. On the first day, we will work with a selection of verses 1–26 from the “Freedom Journey”. The second day a selection of “Love Journey” verses 27–52. Brian authored Rudolf Steiner’s Soul Calendar: A Journey Towards Freedom and Love, Death and Rebirth. He has also published 40 years of biodynamic calendars annually. The workshop will be held in English with verses written in German and English.
51 • Life Forces, Food Quality and Food Sovereignty in the Age of Cellular Agriculture
Thangapandian Dhanikodi, Anthoniselvi Savarimuthu, Balasubramanian • EN
Humanity faces growing challenges around food quality, life force, ecological resilience and soil fertility. While industrial agriculture has increased food production, concerns about soil degradation, the loss of vitality and biodiversity, and degradation of nutritional quality are intensifying. At the same time, cellular agriculture, cultivated meat, precision fermentation and biotechnology are opening new pathways for producing food independently of soil. This workshop explores what this shift may mean for our understanding of food, nutrition and the relationships between soil, plants, animals, microorganisms and human beings. From a biodynamic perspective, the farm is a living organism, and food quality encompasses more than measurable chemical constituents. A comparative study of biodynamic and conventionally grown tomatoes provides a starting point for our discussion. Through short inputs, dialogue and future scenarios, we will explore the pathways of cellular agriculture and biodynamic agriculture in a comparative way. We will ask what kind of food and agriculture can nourish both people and the Earth.
52 • Practical Biodynamics – Land Conversion and the First Preparations
Walter Stappung • EN
In this workshop, we will explore the practical steps involved in converting land to biodynamic agriculture and applying the biodynamic preparations for the first time. We will look at questions that arise during the conversion process, share practical experiences, and discuss possible solutions to common challenges. The workshop will provide space for questions and answers, with a focus on practical experience and exchange.
53 • Engaging with Life through Agriculture, Science, and Eurythmy
Alexander Grabenstein • EN
Rudolf Steiner’s Agriculture Course renewed the spiritual foundations of agriculture. It offers us ways of consciously stewarding and shaping the conditions for life, tending the living beings that have their home in our fields and barns. Science, in turn, enables us through clear thinking and experimentation to understand the particularities and relationships within these conditions and the manifold forms that life takes. Eurythmy offers a third path: through movement, we can directly experience life by actively engaging with our own human form. Eurythmy can offer us a direct experience of the qualities that make the things we tend in the fields and study in the laboratory living.
This Eurythmy workshop invites us to deepen our understanding of life and our capacity to work with it through movement. At the heart of the workshop is a fundamental question that eurythmy continually poses: What does it mean to be a human being on Earth, among other human beings? Through eurythmy, we will explore this question together and seek an experience of what it means to be alive.
54 • Multitier Biodynamic Agroforestry in Dryland Ecosystems
Karuppan Perumal, Jayaraman Packirisamy, Suga Priya, Revathi Kumar • EN
Conventional monoculture is an exception in nature, where diversity and the coexistence of different species are the rule. Intensive horticultural systems, however, are often designed around maximising the productivity of monocultures. Such systems typically rely on genetically uniform crops, uniform planting patterns and high levels of external inputs, and are increasingly criticised for their environmental impacts. Biodynamic agriculture takes a different approach, aiming to reduce external inputs and strengthen the living processes of the farm through practices such as composting, biodynamic preparations and plant-based preparations.
In this workshop, we will explore an intensive, diversified, multilayered horticultural system developed on a 2.5-hectare certified organic farm at Inba Seva Sangam in Sevapur, Tamil Nadu, India. In this multitier system, four or more crops of different heights, canopy structures and root systems are grown simultaneously. The aim is to make more efficient use of sunlight, water, soil and nutrients while supporting soil health, biological diversity and ecological balance. Crops are harvested at different times, providing a continuous and diverse production throughout the year.
We will learn about the design and practical experience of this system and study the observations from a five-year transition towards fully organic and biodynamic management. We will explore how diversified multilayer cropping can influence soil physicochemical properties, microbial biomass, soil health and biodiversity, and consider its potential for sustainable and productive horticulture in dryland ecosystems.
